N.J. Priest With History Of Molestation Resigns →

Child molesting priest promoted, YAY CATHOLICISM! →

A Roman Catholic priest who confessed to groping a teenage boy 12 years ago has been named to a prestigious post in the Archdiocese of Newark, drawing furious criticism from advocates for victims of clergy sex abuse.

In a brief interview with The Star-Ledger, Fugee’s alleged victim, now 26, called the priest’s elevation to a second high-profile post “outrageous.”

Trial starts Monday for priest, teacher in Philadelphia clergy sex-abuse case →

On Monday - after last year’s landmark, three-month trial ended in the first criminal conviction of a church administrator for covering up the crimes of deviate priests - the last two defendants, the Rev. Charles Engelhardt and former parochial schoolteacher Bernard Shero, are to go to trial.

As his wife slept, he fumbled through the darkness for his laptop. After a few quick searches with the terms “pastor” and “atheist,” he discovered that a cottage industry of atheist outreach groups had grown up in the past few years. Within days, he joined an online network called the Clergy Project, created for clerics who no longer believe in God and want to communicate anonymously through a secure Web site.
DeWitt began e-mailing with dozens of fellow apostates every day and eventually joined another new network called Recovering From Religion, intended to help people extricate themselves from evangelical Christianity. Atheists, he discovered, were starting to reach out to one another not just in the urban North but also in states across the South and West, in the kinds of places DeWitt had spent much of his career as a traveling preacher. After a few months he took to the road again, this time as the newest of a new breed of celebrity, the atheist convert. They have their own apostles (Bertrand Russell, Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens) and their own language, a glossary borrowed from Alcoholics Anonymous, the Bible and gay liberation (you always “come out” of the atheist closet).

Clergy Project is getting some mainstream press.

Focus on the Family claims Colorado fires are just like premarital sex

not only is this grossly slut-shame-y and heteronormative, but it’s so insulting to the people who have lost their homes and the lives that were taken. Focus on the Family can’t get much lower in my book. This is so disgusting. Though it is interesting that CitizenLink deleted the original article…

And I wish that this article had actually done more to counter the ridiculous statements made, with more sources and facts, instead of gifs and jokes.

That’s what happens to a perfectly good human brain when it’s taught from childhood that the Bible is actually real.

Bishops Group to Investigate Girl Scouts - NYTimes.com →

The Girl Scouts are facing an official inquiry by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. At issue are concerns about program materials that some Catholics find offensive

Looks like the Catholic church is on a role picking on little girls today.

Catholic School: We Forfeit the State Championship because There’s a Girl on the Other Team →

Paige Sultzbach must be one hell of an athlete because she’s scaring away the competition.

Her school, Mesa Preparatory Academy in Arizona, doesn’t have a softball team, so she decided to try out for the boys’ baseball team. To no one’s surprise, she made it. They went undefeated all season (with a 9-0 record) and were excited to play for the Arizona Charter Athletic Association state championship on Wednesday night.

Unfortunately, her team faced the aptly-named Our Lady of Sorrows Academy… a school that doesn’t think women ought to allowed to play a Man’s Game.

Sultzbach’s team won the state championship, but not in the way they would’ve liked to. Meanwhile, the athletes on the opposing team didn’t even get a chance to play in the game they had worked toward all season.

Haha, “Catholic education” is an oxymoron.

Teen Girl Exorcism Squad: Three Arizona Girls Claim to Cast Out Demons - ABC News →

Brynne, Tess and Savannah from Phoenix are black belts in karate, expert horseback riders and avid musical theater fans. And they perform exorcisms.

“We’re just normal girls who do something extraordinary for God,” Brynne said. “After seeing an actual exorcism in person, led by us, you will walk away with no doubt, whatsoever.”

I’m just happy some clever headline writer treated this nonsense seriously enough to use it as an opportunity to reference Homestar Runner.
