Corey Bernstein is a 17-year-old resident of New Jersey and co-chair of the Youth Caucus at Garden State Equality, the state’s organization for LGBT civil rights. In an email sent to [creationist nutbag Kirk] Cameron through his manager on Friday, Bernstein wrote that he had “endured brutal bullying” in high school because he was gay, and invited Cameron to a lunch on Saturday along with other members of the LGBT community in Ocean Grove.

"In a kind, respectful and constructive way, we’d like to talk to you about the pain your words about being LGBT have personally caused me and other LGBT youth," Bernstein wrote. "Your statement that being LGBT is ‘destructive to our civilization,’ when millions of LGBT people like me try our very best every day to make our world a better place, was like a knife in the heart.”
Despite Bernstein’s heartfelt plea, Cameron declined

Hispanics are the new negro

Stephen Colbert: You have said that Hispanics are the new negro.
Scott Douglas: Yes, based on treatment, because it's just like the Jim Crow laws. Where arbitrary laws, capricious in their application gives anybody the power over you, to abuse you, to hurt you, to harm you.
Socialistexan turned me on to this, but I like this image better than the one going around.

Kentucky church bans interracial couples

Kentucky church bans interracial couples

Gulnare Freewill Baptist Church in Kentucky has banned interracial couples. In a 9-6 vote the church passed a resolution banning the couples. Read that resolution here: http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/kentucky-church-bans-interracial-marriage-150009470.html

I’m actually glad that a church is showing its true colors. Church is a place where people go to celebrate their sameness, their conformity. They call it “shared values” and “community,” but they’re an insular community and their values aren’t shared, they’re dictated. You can choose to see this as a church acting bigoted, and it is, but I choose to see it as an interracial couples’ first step toward true freedom: Freedom FROM religion.
