RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) - A group of gay activists gathered outside a Rio Rancho elementary school Wednesday morning to show support for a 5th grader with lesbian parents.

The peaceful gathering involved a handful of protesters at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School.

Jenna Bissell’s parents have said they believe a teacher wouldn’t give Jenna medical treatment after falling during recess because her parents are lesbians.

The district and the state hired an investigator who said the allegations were unfounded.

The Bissell-Peterson family also indicated plans to sue the district for neglect and child abuse.

Protesters said they’ll be at the school until 5 p.m.
