The Occupy Wall Street movement went Uptown on Friday night, as more than 100 people filled the second-floor sanctuary at St. Philip’s Church in Harlem for the first general meeting of Occupy Harlem. Unlike their downtown comrades, those in attendance were mostly black and Latino, save for a handful of whites who sat and listened intently, a few lifting their fists to shouts of “Power to the People.”

Is Herman Cain’s strange ad a message to the tobacco lobby?

“Under Mr. Cain’s leadership, the restaurant association opposed higher taxes on cigarettes and the use of federal money to prosecute cigarette makers for fraud.”

“Cain argued vociferously that the decision about whether to go smoke-free was the province of individual restaurant owners, not the government.”

Does it even matter if it was intended to be a message to big tobacco or not? Of course it’s going to operate as one and of course Cain stands against government regulations, among them smoking bans which are designed to protect restaurant workers from having to inhale 8 hours worth of second hand smoke for tips. Cain doesn’t give a fuck about your situation. He’s not a serious thinker. He’s not even intelligent enough to hire a staff intelligent enough to review an ad like this and see it as classless.

Basically, I don’t know if there’s a covert message to the tobacco companies here, but there’s definitely a covert message: Support Herman Cain if you’re a complete fucking idiot.

Here’s something that bigots, atheist-haters and, of course, conservatives just LOVE to accuse us of. They think we don’t see the slight of hand here, but let me break it down for you. The defense of an American’s right to freedom of religious practice is not tantamount to support for everything everyone who adheres to any sect of that religion does. It’s not the “disagreeing with Islam” that makes people on the left angry with bigots, it’s their bigoted, misinformed, violent and dehumanizing rhetoric.

Just know this conservatives, when you say bullshit like this, no one is convinced except the most pigheaded, reactionary douchebags in your frat and we’re not afraid of you. You loudmouth blowhards can NOT intimidate us from telling the truth not with mockery, not with being dismissive and not with threats. We are smarter than you are and your refusal to educate yourself is an indication that you are terrified, cowardly and powerless.
