Oh hey, non-Jews everywhere! Please do me a favor: if you are adamantly opposed to circumcision, please do not comment on how “barbaric” or whatever it is that Jewish law dictates that penis-wielding babies be circumcised unless you’d like to engage in a nice long discussion about the relationship of your statement to historic anti-Semitism. Some Jews don’t like circumcision much either but we really don’t need you policing our traditions.
There’s absolutely no relationship between the genuine criticism directed at the actions of one’s peers and any historical anti-Semitism. If you don’t want others to think that cutting off parts of infants’ genitals (and sometimes sucking on the wound) is inhumane/cruel/unethical then maybe you should start telling the people who continue this “practice” to stop.
Not to mention it’s a tradition based on a story where a man and his family and a whole zoo escaped bad weather made by a ghost in a giant boat. In return for penis tips he gave us a rainbow. So, barbaric or not, it’s definitely silly.
Psst. Anti-theists? Childish rants like the one above are why so many religious folk hate you. It’s not paranoia. It’s not fear. It’s not because of a perceived lack of morality. It’s the things anti-theists ACTUALLY SAY. There are plenty of good reasons to be opposed to circumcision and to not believe in religion. Ignorant, hateful nonsense spewed from hacking together a few bible stories are not among them. Grow the fuck up.
Decided to start referring to it as anti-theism rather than new atheists, as it still seems insulting to connect it to the atheists I know who wouldn’t say this sort of crap.
What? What did I say? I simply pointed out the history of Jewish and Christian practices of circumcision is rooted in a story where a man loads a zoo onto a boat. If there’s anything that’s nonsense or crap, it’s the Bible.
