Earlier the Syrian Electronic Army may have hacked The Onion’s twitter account. The Onion did not take kindly to it. You do not fuck with The Onion.

the good news is he’s a white guy, so this will not be dissected by the media. there will not be widespread fear mongering and overt racism. and people will continue to think arab muslims are the only, or even biggest, terrorist threat our nation faces.
Stepthough wouldn’t even have to look into history, just look at the news today. That’s what’s really going on on this blog, I’m trying to show today’s harm of religion through the news. Sometimes I get a little distracted and start posting about other stuff, but almost nobody tells me to focus up or anything.
I really do think it’s worth my time, because it was worth the time for the people who helped me escape superstitious, fear-based, magical thinking, even though they didn’t know who I was or that I was listening and reading and watching and learning. And it does affect my life, everyday at every turn and if you’re wondering how, there’s a blog you might want to read about it.
Did I say that? I am proud to be free from religion and to live in a place where my life isn’t often threatened for doing so.
RELIGION DISTORTS PEOPLES’ SENSE OF SELF-WORTH:
Elizabeth Smart spoke at a Johns Hopkins human trafficking forum, saying she was raised in a religious household and recalled a school teacher who spoke once about abstinence and compared sex to chewing gum.
“I thought, ‘Oh, my gosh, I’m that chewed up piece of gum, nobody re-chews a piece of gum, you throw it away.’ And that’s how easy it is to feel like you know longer have worth, you know longer have value,” Smart said. “Why would it even be worth screaming out? Why would it even make a difference if you are rescued? Your life still has no value.”
Tumblr seems to disagree. But here’s my view.
I am an atheist, almost an antitheist. Almost all forms of organized religion disgust me this includes Islam. Islam has some good messages of peace but overall it is a disgusting out dated religion.
However, I honestly believe there is a huge phobia of Islamic people in this country. 80% of this country is Christian and less than 4% is Muslim. Many Christians make statements like “All Muslims need to get our country!” or “we should put them all to death!” and these are unacceptable. I know there are extremists Muslims that do horrible things, but there are extremists of all religions. (Christians who bomb abortion clinics make me fucking sick)
So, when conservatives whine that us atheist tend to defend Muslims from time to time just know it’s not because I respect the idealogy or agree with it. It’s because I see what they go through, I see the bigotry and don’t stand for it. They have every right to believe in that religion, it doesn’t make them any less American.
Perfectly stated. I’ll stand up for Muslims or Christians in the face of bigotry any day, but I’ll never support an oppressive institution like Islam or Christianity. The difference is Muslims and Christians are human beings, Islam and Christianity are just the tribes that divide them and provide cause to treat each other like they’re not human.
